The second volume of Trailology essays might be subtitled "Proceedings of the Summer 2026 Trailology Symposium." The symposium took place at Wageningen University & Research (WUR) in the Netherlands on June 8, 2026, and brought together academics and practitioners from the United States and Europe. Participants came from organizations including WUR, Binghamton University (NY, USA); Pannonia University (Hungary); the European Hiking Federation (ERA); and the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA). Essays from the event will be bound in a limited-run, hard-copy format, and will also be available online.
The first volume of Trailology essays grew from presentations given in the early Trailology Collective Zoom meetings. Presenters were invited to discuss what trailology might look like from inside their practice or academic discipline. After the live calls and ensuing question/answer sessions, presenters were then asked to condense their material into about 1,000 words in English, and to write an introductory abstract in their native language. The result was a first-of-its-kind interdisciplinary and international collection of work on trails. Trailology 1 was released at the 2024 World Trails Conference in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
